Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power Projects held Commissioning Ceremony

R500,000 was donated to each of two schools in Northern Cape - Wang Lei People's Daily Online SA

244.5 MW Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power Projects is successfully put into operation in the Northern Cape on 17th November, 2017, by Longyuan SA.

Concelor Rong Yansong from China’s Embassy in SA said the projects are of great importance to strengthening renewable energy technical corporation and communications between China and South Africa.

“Together with the international community, China will work hard to achieve policy, infrastructure, trade, financial, and people-to-people connectivity and thus build a new platform for international corporation to create new drivers of common development.” He said.

Longyuan SA is the wholly-owned subsidiary of China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited (China Longyuan, the largest wind power developer in the world, with total installed wind power capacity 17.4GW by end of June, 2017).

Mac Jack, MEC of Northern Cape province, expressed his gratitude to Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power Projects for its outstanding contribution to the electricity consumption of local people and said that it will continue to support the cooperation projects between China and Africa.

Longyuan South Africa Renewables (Longyuan SA, registration number 2011/006232/07) was registered on March 17, 2011 and the main business is power supply and generation of electricity.

Zhang Guohou, deputy general manager of China Guodian Corporation expressed his thanks for the active cooperation between the Eskom, local government, police station and other relevant agencies. He also affirmed the professional attitude of the staff of African and Chinese staff in the project. Without them, the project will not have the successful commissioning today. They have together created a new globalization stage for China Long yuan’s wind power project.

On 29 October 2013, the Department of Energy of South Africa announced that Longyuan SA successfully won two wind power projects through its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPPP), De Aar 100.5MW and De Aar II 144MW respectively in Northern Cape, with the total investment worth around 5 billion, which marks Longyuan SA the first Chinese state-owned company as sponsor, EPC contractor and O&M contractor of wind project in Africa.

The above two projects were under construction in October 2015 and expected to be commissioned November 2017. After that, Longyuan SA will be there for 20 years’operation.

Huang Qun, deputy general manager of China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited,said that the hardworking attitude of China Guodian staff has been fully demonstrated in the Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Wind Power Project. They have overcome the difficult working conditions in the local area and ensured that the project is completed with high quality and high efficiency. They are “Proud China Guodian."

During the commissioning ceremony, witnessed by Deputy Consul Cao Li of Consulate General of P.R.C. in Capetown, the group also donated 500,000 rand respectively to each of two schools in Northern Cape to support local education, and the mayors expressed their deep appreciation for the support.

The projects play positive roles in solving power shortage, and will contribute greatly to the up liftment of the communities through:
1. more than 700 employment opportunities directly and indirectly
2. green economy by more than 644 million kwh annually, which can satisfy 85,000 household power demand, and reduce 620 thousand tons of CO2
3. economic and socio-economic development projects (ED/SED) within local community, which will be millions every year.
